A top European auto safety body is releasing new rules that will require physical buttons and knobs for key vehicle features to receive a full five-star safety rating. I’d like to see the same in North America.
Euro NCAP will release new testing guidelines in 2026.
New vehicles are truly awful. My boss has an F150 Lightning and everything has to be done via the massive touchscreen. It’s annoying and profoundly unsafe.
My daughter (now 30) was car shopping and was insistent on vehicle that had a knob for radio volume. The Mazda CX-5 had one.
Finally someone is using their brains for once. Great news.
God yes. Touch menus should not be in cars. They seem to design these things under the impression everyone is cruising down an empty interstate rather than navigating heavily trafficked city streets with constant activity that requires full attention.
Man, you should check the Tesla subreddits. This would make them BIG MAD.
I’m looking to replace my aging 2012 vehicle but nothing they build these days has buttons anymore. Hopefully this puts pressure on automakers to bring them back.
9/11 for tesla fans
TBH I've always considered touch screens to be a bloody stupid idea for automotive control functions.
None of you have a Tesla do you... The key functions are mapped and editable to the multi-function wheel/buttons. There is literally zero market for the add on buttons available. Nobody is buying them. Keep your uninformed opinions to yourself maybe? Looks kinda ignorant.
