Margaret Bondfield was Labour MP for Wallsend when she became the first woman Cabinet Minister, as Minister of Labour in 1929. She was MP for Wallsend from a 1926 by-election until 1931, having previously been MP for Northampton from 1923-24.
As Newcastle expanded it took first in 1950 Lemington, Westerhope and Throckley from Wansbeck into Newcastle-upon-Tyne West, then in 1983 Dinnington and North Gosforth from Hexham into Newcastle-upon-Tyne North.
Morpeth (sub-Area 6) gave its name to a constituency from 1885 until 1983, when it helped form the re-created seat of Wansbeck, except for the more rural northern parts of the constituency which went to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Since 2024 it has been part of North Northumberland.
Whitley Bay (sub-Area 19) has been in Tynemouth constituency since 1950, but prior to then was part of Wansbeck.

Eddie Milne was first elected as Labour MP for Blyth in a 1960 by-election. He became a campaigner against corruption in local government in the North East. He was deselected before the February 1974 General Election, but won as Independent Labour. He lost by 78 votes in October.
The 1983 version of Newcastle-upon-Tyne North inherited no electors, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne Central virtually no electors, from their same-named immediate predecessors. The abolished West Division gave most of its electorate to the new North and Central.

Konni Zilliacus was elected as Labour MP for Gateshead in 1945, but was expelled from the party in 1949 for pro-Communist sympathies. He fought and lost Gateshead E in 1950 as Independent Labour.
