In the Brazilian and Chilean dictatorships, the business community often started out supportive because there were a lot of people who thought you had to discipline labor and the only way you could do it was outside of a democratic framework but [1/2]
over time you would see businessmen get sorted into groups based partly on who could benefit from cronyism and corruption of various types and those who couldn't, with the latter calling for the return of the rule of law as better for the business environment [2/2]
