Yeah how do we assume that people in the path of weather have the resources to, for example, find housing? How do you even do that on short notice? It took me weeks to find a sublet when I had plumbers destroying my bathroom, how do you do it with days notice? Or do you pay $$$$ for a hotel??
It's really good to see this being recognized and talked about - there's historically been a huge lack of empathy for people who don't evacuate because people assume they're all being stubborn, even though anyone who lives in the US knows how few resources so many people here have.
Some don't evacuate despite repeated hurricane warnings — because they can't
People with disabilities, people who can't afford it and people who don't want to abandon their pets are among the many who can't easily get up and leave before a hurricane.
