What's interesting is that it isn't THAT much faster than, say, the AER: median turnaround is 77 days.

Economics really should have a discussion of how to fix what I view as a badly broken process of how we publish research. We are in a bad equilibrium, which discourages research progress.

The problem with gatekeeping is that it is self-defeating because it limits the visibility of your brand. Hence, the emergence of other formats. But the problem remains because these journals are not really meant to be a solution.
