I don't think I deserve that. My comment echoed the common claim that modern building patterns have contributed to the flooding problems (wrong place, reduction of drainage areas, etc). As for the region, I would guess it has been inhabited for around 12000 years or more.

Thanks. My mistake. I was sort of thinking about the recent flooding we have had in central Europe. My comment was probably relevant in those cases.

When you travel through Europe, then you'll notice where the old villages are - and where they are not. People learned about flooding (the hard way) and built accordingly.
