Story of the 'red hand' legend of the first people to arrive in Ulster, Ireland. The text reads" Rúraí pulled out his sword and chopped off his own left hand. He threw the hand over Slaigne's head so that it fell on the beach. The colour Rúraí's blood left the beach was "red" as in "red hair", the colour of the seaweed left by the spring tides twice a month. The mountain was called after Slaigne whose eye lit on it from the mast of the ship, but Rúraí was named after the beach where his hand landed. The red-hand flag is a symbol of this story; if you look at it from the right hand side you will see a right hand, but if you look at it from the left hand side you will see a left hand. Whichever side you look from, you are right, but your right is not righter than the other refugee's."
