After playing Paper Mario 64 and TTYD back to back, it's kind of jarring just how simple a lot of the level design in TTYD is. A lot of areas are just flat linear plains that you travel left to right and then backtrack a few times until the narrative allows you to continue. It feels very condensed.

PM64 has a lot of expansive areas that encourage exploration and puzzle solving to reveal the path forward. Even the Peach segments have more interesting gameplay. I love TTYD and used to consider it the superior game, but now I'm not sure. If you liked TTYD and haven't played PM64, give it a shot 👀
