This fellow was on Radio 4's Thought for the Day yesterday. I cursed the BBC and braced myself for five minutes of ferocious cultural warfare but was he came across as surprisingly normal + almost pleasant.

Precisely. I've always suspected that many in western Europe swallow Putin's useful idiot agenda because it's the easy option. No moral obligation + not our problem = no need for the hassle of standing up to an enemy on our doorstep. Wrong, in fact, on all counts.
