It was actually fine. No pain, no nasty burning smell, no high-pitched whine of drills. Still not something to look forward to, but then again, not a thing to dread. Had this happened 50 years ago with the primitive tools & dental technology available then, it would have been a whole lot worse!

Indeed! Fifty years ago, the mere idea of having to have two fillings would have had me worried sick. These dates with the current dental technology and tools, it's really nothing. Apart from the numb face!
