The Trump WH essentially dared them to do it. They did. Trump’s allies in Congress forgave it, making their own body utterly powerless over the executive branch. (Unless, as we found out post ‘22, the President is a Democrat.)

And I hold McConnell accountable. He could have told his Senate GOPers to convict either time but he told them not to. Since then he waffles back and forth about how terrible his guy is — showing the world that he knows but he doesn’t care. He’s the worst monster of them all.
