Also: unmoderated spaces are a ridiculous idea. We created a shared network for competing moderated spaces to exist. Even if somebody wanted to make an unmoderated ATProto app, I guess they could? Good luck with the app stores and regulators and users, I guess. Checks and balances, not anarchy
Yep, if you've worked in comms, community, privacy or encryption in last 3 decades it's common knowledge how the market works and how the product space operates. We know what people need and want and we know what works and what doesn't. Super biz guy just wants to see nazi stuff.

I mean, I would say a common misconception about anarchy is that it means you can do whatever you want. What it really means is there's nothing to protect you from the worst consequences of being a piece of shit. Most people who want Nazis to be able to say anything don't actually want anarchy.
I've issues w/Markos, but the reason that dailykos became a HUGE deal in discussion/microblogging/Dem politics in the early 2000s is precisely bc Markos saw that a wonky anti-Bush online community kept trying to form & getting shut down by bad-faith trolls. So he built one & policed it & it throve.
It’s a question of degree, “gatekeeping” has become a nasty word but it’s just moderation. Social media has allowed people to be heard who weren’t before, but unfortunately some of those voices are horrible. Getting the balance right is really fucking hard.
