Basically the "invalid handle" thing happens when certain parts of our infra goes down. Once we get that infra back up, it should fix itself. It's a silly side-effect of outages that we need to fix!

perhaps could be a significant fix to change the error message on the UI to something like "Server temporary unavailable", changing the user's perspective from "there is something wrong with my handler" to "there is something temporary wrong with the platform".
