I live here and it's not super walkable unless you're ok staying in one neighborhood, the transit is less than ideal for going a lot of places.
Have a relatively strong university-based pro-palestine movement here. Unclear if the organizers would want to talk to you but a good chunk of the left around these parts is not going to vote because of how this has all gone.
