Duke University announced it is ending a full-ride scholarship program for Black students in the wake of the Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling
The scholarship is named in honor of Reginaldo “Reggie” Howard, Duke’s first Black student government president who died in an automobile accident during his sophomore year in 1976.
Time to donate to United Negro College Fund...until the court says that is illegal. Hell this court will probably ban teaching black children to read.
The erasure and forced colonization of Black Americans is now underway.
This absolutely sucks.
The whiteness, it doth ever bleach so.
Forty+ years ago, I got into Duke. In the intervening decades, I’ve never once regretted not going. Whether it’s been the school or the state, there has been constant affirmation that passing on them was the right choice.
Affirmative action was chosen as a remedy because it had the least clawback aspects of proposals that were made.
this sounds just so… Duke.
I am very much saddened to see this. It's also hard to see the words about Duke, which are not, I think, always fair. Social media are a good place to vent and they are a hard place to be.
The Whiteness continues
This is some deep obeying in advance territory.
