Obama was the first Democratic nominee of my lifetime who conservatives talked about as if he was dumb. (The whole “affirmative action, somebody else wrote his books for him” thing.) With Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, etc., the pattern was to act as if they were too smart to be fully human.
