Here's the Sun thru my solar telescope a few minutes ago. Lots of activity around the edge - huge columns of hydrogen gas - that will be visible by eye during the eclipse! Focus is a little soft but not too bad.

The Sun is a big red disk, with some little squiggly splits of gas shooting up from it.

I was surprised to see so much solar activity and flares in the images today, so great to have an eclipse to highlight all that action! (Which is happening all the time, I realize.) Thanks for posting and explaining everything!

The "red sparkles" around the lower edge during totality were a highlight for me. Then I came online and saw what they were. Absolutely blows my mind.
