The pedal sensor that only engages the motor while you're pedaling makes it feel pretty smooth.
I added a Swytch kit to an old Trek 1500 road bike. I had to file the axle to fit into the quick-release fork, but other than that little installation hiccup, it's been a good and reliable addition that made a long bike commute less daunting.
I'm in the process of refurbishing an old Peugeot UO-8 for grocery store runs. If you're not trying to keep an antique and are going for something basic and utilitarian, there are shockingly cheap parts out there.
