If the clothes have toggles as shape keys that shrink them under the body, they should still work fine unless you make dramaric edits. If the toggle is done by disabling a mesh, or with shaders, you shouldn't have anything to worry about at all.
The word definitely gives me red flags because I hear it from people who are giving shit to other people for really silly reasons like being a furry or using a female avatar but being a dude irl. It's just a blanket term that often groups people who are just doing their own thing with awful people.
Having CATS blender plugin helps alot with this kind of stuff. What I do is pose and scale the bones on the outfit until it roughly fits the base I'm trying to put it on, then use CATS "Apply as rest pose" option. Finally, I use proportional editing in edit mode to make any fine adjustments.
