Do I count the time taken to try to put toppings on it, squeezed against the metal counter by someone's cart while they grind coffee beans? Do I get full credit for the hot dog if I lost 30% of the mustard putting it back in the bag, or do I have to lick it off of my receipt before I reach the line?

Out of curiosity, how many social media shares would you usually expect to see for a story getting that many viewers?

I'm frustrated by the enshittification of Google Search, and I've often gotten better results from DuckDuckGo. But "list of zip codes"? The first Google result was the official USPS spreadsheet. 20th result on DDG, end of page 2 on Bing. Mostly bad AI answers, ads, and scammy sites before that.

And Nuzzi's coverage of the election was far more egregious. "People are concerned about Biden's age" is true in the same way as "people are concerned about murder" in my example above: statements that can be made true by the coverage, and in her case to the direct benefit of her undisclosed lover.

Any "as long as it's true..." justification is journalistic malpractice; communication isn't just an output, it's a relationship. For example, frequent front page stories about murders, maybe with a footnote about rates declining nationwide, is not good journalism, even if it's all technically true.

"I did not realize AM was still around" is like a daily thought for some of us. 😀
