In poor countries without good welfare systems (most of them), it seems that people are far more aware of this. If they are at all comfortable then they are likely to have a housekeeper, and it's often explicitly seen as a way to spread the wealth.

this was the exact reason why my grandparents hired way way more people than they actually needed to help around the house during the many years they spent living as expats in developing countries (which included postwar Germany)
