As much as I love Crowded House , I ditched them to snap Comet #TsuchinshanATLAS, thanks to an unexpected clear spell over Dublin. Guess I love comets more 🤣 Tons of shots, will process them tomorrow.
Heads up: the CME from the X1.8 flare on Oct 8th has arrived at STEREO-A, looking promising for a strong #northernlights display this evening. Timing is favouring Europe: should arrive at Earth in the next couple of hours.
the simpsons one time did a bit where a meteor almost hit springfield and the townspeople were like, "lets burn down the observatory so this never happens again"
Vitriol is being directed at meteorologists. “I’ve been doing this for 46 years and it’s never been like this,” says Alabama meteorologist James Spann. He says he’s been “inundated” with misinformation and threatening messages like “Stop lying about the government controlling the weather or else.”
It's their job to warn residents about destructive storms — but political polarization has made them targets online.
Also, look at comet #tsuchinshanatlas in the SOHO C3 image: it's between us & the Sun, so forward scattering from the dust tail is rapidly amping up the brightness. At its peak today, probably around the brightness of Venus. Will start appearing after dusk tomorrow.
So after the duds of the X7 & X9 flares, a X1 level flare happened overnight: and we got a classic full halo CME too. And it's **fast**: unlike other things in life, fast is good in this case. 🤣 That CME is heading for us, and it's powerful. Promising for #northernlights
Looking like **both** CMEs from the big X flares a few days ago either missed us or were much weaker than at first glance. No #northernlights#tsuchinshanatlas!
When comet C/2023 A3 emerges in the evening sky the dust tail will point towards the horizon and will swing antisolar around only on/after the 13th. Why? Because the comet is between us and the Sun! #astronomy
Time lapse of C/2023 A3 from a webcam at the Subaru telescope on Mauna Kea, from Sept 22 to yesterday. (One of the most amazing places I've ever visited - and even did a little amateur stargazing up there while on breaks during observing nights on JCMT) #Astronomy
Purposely ignoring QPR by spending my Saturday planning remote imaging observations of Comet #TsuchinshanATLAS over the next few weeks from Namibia and Spain..
If the team can actually develop the vaccine they propose, this would be an absolutely incredible achievement:
Experts hope the ovarian cancer jab could work in a similar way to the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which is on track to stamp out cervical cancer.
