saeed may i ask what you would do when you run across “artifacts” like this out there in thrift stores? i’ve brought things to the counter and asked that the manager not sell offensive racial stereotypes, etc (native american stuff is also wild here) like mammy salt and pepper shakers etc.

Something I think about is that these awful items need to be around “somewhere” for educational purposes and to push back on the nostalgia for the “better America” some pine for openly.

I’m in AZ. When I come across historical things, I purchase them and send them to museums for them to curate or dispose of properly. I would absolutely have sent the minstrel music to the African-American museum.

Specific to sheet music, I know that the Boston Public Library has a large collection of socio-political & adjacent sheet music-- suffrage & anti-suffrage songs, pacifism songs, etc. I'd consider buying it & donating to them. Also HBCU libraries & some museums may be interested depending on material
