It is really striking to me how some university leaders have managed to keep their cool and ended the Gaza encampments peacefully through dialogue and others have just needlessly escalated. dailynorthwestern.com/2024/04/29/c...
Student demonstrators wrapped up negotiations with the University Monday after five days of demonstrations. The University will engage in a number of steps to support Palestinian students and protest ...
If university leaders are acting in loco parentis, it is worth asking: what kind of parent calls the police on their misbehaving kid? I think most of us would see that person as not a very effective parent!
The protesters have done an amazing job with this. Taking the W when they get it and escalating when they don't is exactly how this should be handled.
Northwestern also agreed to make quite a few policy changes too. Really well done on everyone’s part there.
Yes, thankfully some have kept their heads: Where it was escalated though, To watch the coverage of most of the networks, it's amazing how it became a show about 'Cops' and 'criminal behavior' and not what the protests are really about: Trying to stop a war and needless deaths.
My daughter applies to college next year. Striking any of the schools calling cops on their own students from the list. I’d love for the schools that have handled this peacefully to be getting more attention
University of Vermont, University of New Hampshire and Middlebury have emphasized their policies of free speech and assembly, but places where nothing bad is happening don't get much attention.
An unsolicited thought from an outside(Europ.)observer: my mind kept going back to: State Rights,Flynn& Cotton. The feeling persists, that excessive law enforcement/uni rector's reactions have less to do w the subject of Gaza/Israel,but w Cotton's ominous article. ofc might be totally wrong 🤷🏻♀️
Just read that and was thinking - wow this can really work ... peacefully.

University authorities agreed to drop all disciplinary proceedings against demonstrators.
