Everyone knows about the Yucatan crater but no one talks about the much more badass Araguainha crater. It was 2.4km deep, and part of the fucking *Permian* extinction. The one that killed 90% of all species. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araguai...

For reference, the average depth of the Atlantic Ocean is 3.6km. This thing is almost as deep as the Atlantic Ocean. The asteroid that made it was 3km wide, and hit with 106 megatons of impact.
