do not hand your unlocked phone to a cop apple wallet *technically* doesn't require your phone to be unlocked, but please don't be the test case in court
I think about this every time my insurance company tries to sell me on keeping my insurance card on my phone, vs the printed copy I get. Nope nope nope nope nope.
Fun fact. The police can't force you to enter your unlock code, but they can use biometrics to unlock your phone against your will.
Also, if your phone is the only place you have your ID and you forgot to charge it that morning...
As someone who was in InfoSec for a period of time... Please. Don't ever do this. And please, for fuck sake, MFA your iphones. Apple has the settings to have 5 layers of authentication. Don't use Fingerprint or FaceID. If you can set it up to brick itself after 5 or more failed attempts.
I’ve got a copy of my license, insurance, etc. on my phone in a form that I have used to facilitate interactions with non-government officials, but there’s no way I’m handing my phone to anyone.
Locked or not, do not give your phone to a cop unless you're legally compelled to do so. Even if they can't access the data on the phone, they're not going to give it back immediately when you ask for it, and you don't want to be stuck without a phone while being detained (legally or otherwise).
I have my driver's license on my phone. Literally. As in, my driver's license is tucked between my phone and the protective case. There if I need it, but nobody's finding it otherwise.
and know by touch how to disable biometric auth! (on the iphone it's holding down the side button and volume down)
And turn off touch locks! Your finger has no right to privacy!
