Idk if “escaped zoo animals” is a common phrase with the kids nowadays, but I genuinely laughed at that.
I was worried about that too. There is a feature now that lets you seed based off of the previous season’s results. It’s pretty similar to what it would generate with current data too. Honestly I would LOVE if LUTI divs were auto generated through sendou and we just spent the week spot checking it.
No other format works for a school night tourney with 70+ teams. Groups is the only format that gives teams a min of 4 matches and doesn’t take more than 4 hours (usually). It’s a virtual bo3 SE yes and no matter what you do seeding will never be 100% accurate to reality, but it’s efficient.
Seeding weeklies are better this way. Having the site seed with a checker is less labor intensive than 3-4 seeders spending 30 mins every week. SOS also regularly gets 70+ teams now, that’s a lot to hand seed every week. Good news is LUTI, majors, and LANs are still seeded the old fashioned way.
Seeding in general is a bit of a lost art. It’s one thing to know recent info for a handful of teams, it’s another to know it for every team in a tourney, top to bottom. Roundy is one of the best.
I don’t think people knew how vital Roundy was to seeding tourneys in the battlefy days. If there was a tourney that had any real significance, online or LAN, Roundy likely had a very significant role in seeding it. Now sendou tourneys seed with the click of a bottom. Technology replaced Roundy.

Curious of your thoughts about the TO point you bring up
Obviously it opens up a can of worms, but for Nintendo just limiting this feature to pbs wouldn’t hurt the game. Solo would keep the regular kits and pbs have more creative freedom. Salmon Run pb already kinda works that way.
