Richard Fahey for Artists Against Apartheid, 1981; New Zealand. The Red and Blue Escort Groups pictured here were meant to ensure the security of the Springbok rugby team in AoNZ & were notorious for the violence of their riot control tactics. Ref GH012207 Te Papa.

This placard was painted in response to the clashes between police and protesters, and was carried during demonstrations. The image of faceless police wearing helmets with visors and holding their batons at the ready was based on photographs of the time.
