Wait, I might be miss remembering. It was garbage allocation. You couldn’t check for a component without triggering a garbage collector allocation (in editor mode) when the component wasn’t there. Annoying when you’re working on reducing gc allocations to zero, but tolerable. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ah yeah, that feels like an oversight. Kinda like how (I think?) it used to be impossible to check if a game object had a certain kind of component without generating an exception if it didn’t.
