for the rest of that morning, they barely leave each other’s arms, always leaning in for kisses and savouring the taste of each other’s lips. thankfully, lan zhan doesn’t have to work that day.

lan zhan chortles, a sly smile creeping in at the corners of his lips. “what exactly is wei ying thinking about doing, hm?” wei ying hits him lightly and rolls his eyes. “definitely not what you were just thinking, you perv.”

“i could ask you the same,” lan zhan replies, giving wei ying a chaste kiss on his forehead. “ten… years, lan zhan, can you believe it?” wei ying says. “we wasted ten long years like this… don’t you think we could’ve done so much in this time?”

he tastes the saltiness of his tears when he swipes his tongue gently across wei ying’s lips. “why didn't you tell me?” wei ying asks, arms locked behind lan zhan’s back as he looks up at him, at the contours of his perfectly sculpted face.

“you think i never looked at you only because when i did, you were often smiling brightly and laughing out loud with our classmates,” lan zhan says, his voice soft and mellow as his thumb brushes across wei ying’s flushed cheek. wei ying leans forward and kisses him.

lan zhan exhales, his shoulders slumping visibly. he walks around the counter to the side where wei ying is seated, and very carefully wipes away the tears that have rolled down wei ying's cheeks.

“time went by and i made my peace with only being able to look at you from afar,” he continues. “sure, there were days when i tried to hate you. to stop feeling what i felt. “but even then,” his voice breaks. “𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯, lan zhan, i never stopped loving you.”

“ever since we were desk partners,” wei ying adds, and there is a quiver in his voice. “you never even spared me a glance, lan zhan. you were so cruel.”

“that i have never stopped loving you!” he blurts out, and he feels his eyes water at the confession. it has come ten years too late. lan zhan would probably laugh this off in a couple of days. how silly of him.
