I started fundraising for the Ida B Wells Monument in 2018. The monument was designed by the great Richard Hunt and dedicated in 2021. Last week, I finally saw the monument in person. I was unexpectedly overcome and I haven't found words to express myself. Ida truly deserves this recognition.

A large, abstract bronze sculpture stands in an outdoor park setting. The sculpture is composed of three tall, textured, spire-like pillars supporting an intricate, swirling design at the top. Trees, a lamppost, and a pathway are visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky. This is a monument dedicated to Ida B Wells in Chicago.
A plaque dedicated to Ida B. Wells-Barnett. It provides a brief biography, highlighting her roles as a teacher, journalist, anti-lynching crusader, women's rights activist, and civil rights pioneer. The text covers her birth, achievements, and contributions to civil rights.

There is one in progress in Memphis that I saw in August. But thank you for all you did to make this one a reality! Gorgeous.

I'm so glad you got to see it! Truly a stunning work. I found it really wonderful to think about your involvement with it, bringing so many people along; and the lineages in which you are a touchstone for me and so many others, as she is a touchstone for you and so many others.

So psyched you finally got to see it! It's so weird to be caught up in unexpected emotion, still surprised that happens at my age 🥰❤️
