Hurricane Helene saw North Carolina prisons lock incarcerated men in cells with their own feces and no contact with the outside world.

Shitty situation.

Did not think about this, but it isn’t my job to think about this. Reprehensible.

"On October 3, the NCDAC announced it had evacuated a total of more than 2,000 incarcerated people from five facilities in flood-ravaged Western North Carolina, relocating them further east. “All offenders are safe,” stated the press release." ARE THEY SAFE? I don't believe the press release.

I figured something like this would come to light, but seeing it confirmed is still so much more horrible than being worried about what might happen to the people that this society has decided deserve to be locked in a box and abused, in the event of a Katrina-level disaster striking the area.
