So many things right now—robot babysitters, “AI” writing, “AI” social media and girlfriends—come from a deep-seated fear of the annoying, complicated, difficult emotional work of being a human who’s engaging with other humans. It’s tempting to avoid! But that’s the work and YOU have to do it.
Is the fear justified?
Spot on.
I talked to a PhD AI researcher recently who kept talking up his model's amazing utility for education, and what it did was basically spit out mediocre 10th grade term papers about whatever subject you fed it. I desperately hoped he is never in front of students if that's what he thinks education is
So well said!

There’s no shortcut to get around being human. It’s slow, irritating, work for most of us, learning to be a person and engage with others. It’s the work itself that makes it valuable and worth doing!
and one day in the not too distant future an AI will become self-aware,, then the fecal matter will hit the rotating electric airfoils,,oscillating no less😵💫
Such a helpful framing to share with students. Thanks.
