#art As an artist I am an abstractionist, and always worked relatively large, full sheets of Arches or Rives for drawings, canvases up to 4' by 8', but now in old age it’s no longer practical for me. So trying to figure out an approach to small—in this case a 9"x12" WC sketchbook. First study:

Picasso’s Guernica, in the late 1970s when it was at MoMA. I’d of course looked at reproductions many times but the sheer impact of it up close and in person was overwhelming, as if Picasso was in the room with us, raging.

My very first (15YO) experience of NYC, we (Vermonters, goofy, none of us had been there since my dad in 1939) were going to the ’62? World’s Fair—and riding the subway, a woman across the car made eye contact with my mom, and handed us a bunch of free tickets she happened to have.
