Granted, I haven’t tested any of this with a dedicated living room set up. But the vast majority of people are experiencing Dolby Atmos in the capacity I just mentioned for the first time when they finally do.
Watching TV and Movies in Dolby Atmos on a smartphone is a more useful experience, especially with Spatial Audio Head Tracking turned on.
Music in Dolby Atmos is pretty fantastic, the problem is it needs to be listened to in a very specific circumstance to be fully enjoyed. Sitting in a quiet room with Spatial Audio Head Tracking turned on with your phone in front of you seems to be the best way to experience it.
Why is it when I have AirPods in my ears, people think to themselves “I MUST strike up a conversation with that person!”
By the way, don’t ever feel pressured to upgrade to the latest tech. I’m just a smartphone nerd, most people don’t need to upgrade their Tech unless it no longer works or no longer is officially supported by the manufacturer or application developers.
