Sadly…you’d be surprised. There’s a shockingly vocal minority in Toronto and pro-JDL sentiments pop up unexpectedly in random Facebook groups. I even saw people in JDL shirts when I went to vigils after the Tree of Life shooting & people…seemingly do not think it’s worth causing a scene about.

4/ The term "outside agitator" (read: Jew) is based on the premise that Black people are stupid and happy; children basically, and stay that way until sinister Jews come along and rile them up. It insults both peoples (yes, these are intersecting sets), and gives an excuse for why anyone is unhappy.

3/ To a white supremacist, a Jew is a white person who jeopardizes the structure of white supremacy, who casts their lot with marginalized people in order to make the world the white supremacists want unstable and tenuous, often by underhanded and sneaky methods. Much subterfuge.

2/ When African Americans in the rural South stood up for their rights, the white establishment claimed that Black people were happy with their lot, and weren't smart enough to organize on their own, and therefore Jews must be stirring them up, giving them rebellious ideas.

Although it sounded as if his proposed trade sanctions would just be on products from the Occupied West Bank. The suggested suspension of arms sales sounded broader. But still, it’s a significant position for a Republican (or really for any American political figure, sadly)

The only thing that I insist on pushing back against is the misinformation about the colour of BBC logos

to the extent that right-wing Jews are given space in this far-right political movement it seems predicated on them buying into an ethnonationalist / tribalist view of the world & the US & one that accepts a vision of America as a white Christian nation the way Israel is a Jewish one

…via racist stereotypes about Muslim immigrants, racist discourses about Black people and DEI etc. (the entire Bari Weiss-adjacent moral panic about how diversity programs somehow harm or target Jews etc.)
