I don’t believe in treating the Framers as oracles, but George Mason and James Madison were definitely looking Beyond the Veil here during the debate around impeachment… Made more powerful by the fact that they’d be on opposite sides during the ratification debates.

I like to imagine these guys, having lived under an unhinged, frothing at the mouth monarch and a brutal regime, taking the time to reflect on what they absolutely did not want in a leader.
