One other thing - many highly talented creatives have massive personal issues (see the large total across the board we've lost to drug overdoses, etc.). I do sometimes think that being messed up goes hand in hand with the type of creativity which allows an artist to show us from the outside.

Thats absolutely not true. The thing is that people love to use misery from others as a Motivational thing, and an artist that has a normal happy life and manage to be successful don’t make as an interesting story to tell like one of suffering

This is a cliche that really, really needs to die. A lot of artists use this excuse to be horrible human beings. You don't, in fact, have to be "messed up." The nature of our work requires unconventional lives. Sure. But not any more "messed up" than the rest of humanity.
