Lies and distortions never advance the cause of justice. If anything, allowing distortions to go unchallenged gives unnecessary ammunition to those who will try and deny the horrific events that did happen.

And I'll add that the immediacy of modern information transmission doesn't actually reduce the fog of war. The "first reports from the scene" of anything are rarely the most accurate. Because the "scene" is chaotic and emotional and rumors spread like wildfire, no malice needed.
