Hi there, and welcome to Friday Fucks or Sucks! This week, it's the 1851 Smith-Jennings Series 1 Rifle. An early repeating format, the Jennings loaded a primer and a separate cartridge that had powder and ball. The rest of the series were eventually converted back to single shot with no magazine.

It sucks. It bores me

I like it’s look, but if it’s so bad it has people willingly going from repeaters back to single shot, it sucks. I say this as a single shot aficionado.

This is a weird one for sure. The "rocket ball" almost seems like a beta test version of caseless ammo before the actual tech has evolved enough to really do that. More importantly however, the rifle was a *major* evolutionary leap to the modern lever action rifle. I have to say it fucks.
