apparently a bunch of the "i read 12 books this week" booktokers are revealing that they don't read most of the book when they read, just dialog and small paragraphs, but if a paragraph is more than a couple sentences they only read the first and last line of it and skip the rest lmao
Illiteracy
Also, this may be the same media processing power that has allowed misinformation to spread so easily - why read into headlines when they say everything you need to know.
That's skimming, not reading, and I'll defend that opinion to it's pointless death.
Why bother at all then? Sheesh, if I wanted to ignore a story I would flip on the TV! 🤣🤣🤣
Pretty sure I once saw a headline that was something like “How to Read 50 books in one year.” Reading is being turned into self-improvement task instead of a fun pastime
reading like they in college
This makes me feel better about taking 6 weeks to finish a book 😂 I assumed I read slow but maybe I’m just actually reading
This is how most people read anything. Even people who define their whole identity and sense of self around reading mostly only skim.
Reading is a active entretainment. Not just let things enter your mind. Processing and understanding is needed, and it takes time and effort. As you said, why do this? No one is forcing people to read like this. Enjoy the process!!
