last night i was putting together a list of games for a potential top 100 list. hyper light drifter, wow and super hexagon are solidly top 100. ff1 and ftl are candidates too.

Grimrock 2 is sooooo good!! it has everything i want from that genre and more. i need to replay it sometime.

some interesting non-web things would be games/game engines, embedded systems, scientific data processing, programming languages, operating systems, drivers, or any other native applications

unfortunately most programming jobs involve web development in some way these days, so it's hard to avoid that culture. my advice would be to mix things up with different technologies/projects/perspectives at least every few years to help mitigate stagnation and burnout.
