There is no ambiguity whatsoever in where Musk would have stood wrt the 15th, 19th, 24th, and 26th amendments (among other expansions of the democratic base). To him extending the vote beyond white male land-owners is undemocratic.

I’m assuming that “constitutional right to abortion access” and “repeal the ban on same-sex marriage” are slam dunks. Less confident about any of the others.

This will not be any surprise to anyone, but good to get confirmation that Jared can’t count, either.

There are fascinating cultural differences between elite schools and the more accessible system, and lots to say about donor culture (including f*cking sports-as-academic-brand), but I’m out of patience for taking “unique intellectual culture” as a given. 4/4

Credential inflation has led the undergrad system to be mostly a gateway to the middle class, not some isolated monastery for higher thought. And this very much includes the “elite” schools, which are dominated by high performers, not deep thinkers. 3/

It really seems like all the grand theories treating “American universities” as a monolith are obviously dumb. If you’re trying to harken back to when university was a rare endeavor for the intellectual elite, I’m not sure that exists *anywhere* any more. 2/

That makes a lot of assumptions about terrorists’ goals. Terrorism *does* generally succeed at drawing attention, and there always seems to be a significant fringe that overlooks the terrorism and gains sympathy for the cause. “Is it worth it?” is a hard question. “It accomplishes nothing” is false.

I’m pretty serious about this actually; most people who opine about Twitter weren’t on it before 2011 but some of us remember that before it was the place one went to see breaking news it was the place one went to riff on just-broken news.

You are ascribing an effectiveness to Yang that feels unearned. Suppose NYC just didn’t have a mayor for a while. Wait—that was DeBlasio…

Usually, rich guys deciding the economy is crashing can make it happen. But, in keeping with my general theory: the VC set think of themselves as “the tech industry” and driver of the wider economy, but there’s actually a robust tech industry that has nothing to do with their nonsense.
