#Travel#China#ThreeGorges Three Gorges Dam was built to prevent the Yangtze river from flooding and to produce power. It displaced officially 1.3 million people, but estimates go to 3.5+ million whose homes were submerged and family history lost.

#Travel#China#ThreeGorges Temple near Three Gorges with cliff coffins A LOT of steps. You could hire a sedan chair but we didn't have the heart to do that to anyone. We walked.

Cormorant fishing is a centuries-old practice that involves training cormorants to dive into the river to catch fish. The fishermen stand on bamboo rafts with their cormorants, and when they signal the birds, they dive into the water. The cormorants have a ring around their necks to prevent them from swallowing large fish. When they catch a fish, they keep it in their mouth and return to the boat, where the fisherman removes it.

#Travel#Guilin#China Arrived at Guilin by air and saw Limestone mountains and Li River. Unfortunately, we had to evacuate a few days before we had intended due to a typhoon. We did get to leave on the bullet train though, which was nice.
