I wrote a essay about the grim way being a mom in America is depicted today, and how women weighing parenthood struggle to absorb all these chilling warnings, statistics, and cautionary tales. It’s an essay about dread, but also hope and maybe change. www.vox.com/features/239...

I can go back 3 generations in my family and get this same story. Everyone had doubts, whether war, silent spring, overpopulation and more. Every one, including myself said they shouldn't have listened, and even should have had more kids. Consider: The media message is from the doubters.

A lot to unpack here, too much for a bsky comment. We are both working full time, kids are 5 and 3, really could have gone either way (having kids or not). Missing in this article is the dynamic of extended family/community support. We have none. It’s infinitely easier if you do.

You mix up NDSU and UND in the article

Gen X. Had my kids late bc wasn’t sure I would be a good mom. Now not sure I would do it again if didn’t know my kids, mostly bc climate change & the world they’ll live in. Having kids makes a lot of things harder. I worry so much. But. They are absolutely the best part of my life.
