Ah, now that is an interesting question. GDS saved the state a lot of money. I think I did about £5bn of it myself and some of the services could only work thanks to the Internet, like voter registration. But much of the savings came from simply not outsourcing everything to incompetent contractors

And of course Truss then wiped out all the savings made by government over the past decade with one simple (minded) trick :)

This gets at a key disconnect in NHS tech discussions. There's plenty of basic stuff that's not routinely automated (or done badly) across the NHS that probably would save money if done right (booking systems, waiting lists, back office processes) but it is definitely not AI.

Isn't "did the internet save £" is the wrong q? Increased efficiencies led to more people being able to access services - if £ go up but more people live longer/live better then £ go down elsewhere (which LLM may do too). Realistically the only way to save NHS £ is to let more people die quicker.
