It is like asking whether 3d geometry overturns/disproves 2d geometry or expands/completes/augments it. I would be more inclined to say the latter, but I suppose someone might've taken "2d geometry" to mean, aggressively, "Geometry is necessarily 2d", which 3d geometry serves as counterexample to.
