This is such an infuriating framing. The family that moved out of Iowa wasn’t “fed up with its politics,” the state had literally just criminalized their son’s existence and banned the medical treatments he needs
The Nobles of Iowa moved to blue Minnesota. The Huckinses of Oregon moved to red Missouri. Their separate journeys, five weeks apart, illustrate the fracturing of America.
New York Times is infuriating in general. I would never subscribe to that rag.
We have a similar publication in NZ called the NZ herald that writes right wing propaganda too
A blue family moved out of a state because it was unsafe for them to live there. A red family moved out of a state because they couldn’t handle being around people who didn’t hate as much as they did. The NYTimes: these are the same thing
Two families got fed up with politics: In BLUE STATE, parents were angry that their kids had to learn American history; in RED STATE, the government threatened to put the family’s child into foster care because the parents provided them life-or-death medical intervention. SAMIES!
One of my earliest political memories is hating the NYT Iraq coverage. Sad to see they haven't missed a beat!
The NYT must have had multiple “both sides” orgasms when this story idea was first pitched.
New York Times 🙄 I tend to think more and more when reading an article from them that they need to be better. The reporting and headlines have drastically gone downhill.
Not to mention the insidious transphobia of framing their son’s transness as a “political decision” made for him by his parents based on their own “ideology” as opposed to, y’know, something he is and needs medical care for? It’s literally one of the most popular transphobic talking points!
New York Times is full of crap. Has been for a while.
More click-throughs with combative framing. That seems to be the current journalism "standard" 🤦♂️
