By far the most interesting and thoughtful contribution from a Tory leadership candidate so far at this conference has been Mel Stride at ConHome fringe about intergenerational challenge. And, of course, he's no longer in the race.

But perhaps not being in the race is the thing that gives him permission to start talking about the issues that matter...?

It's always the way. It's only the ones who have no chance that make even vaguely interesting noises.
