A rare exception to this is if you have inherited—AND STILL ENJOY—the well-maintained 1880s piano handed down for generations. The moving cost and hassle is painfully real, and it is increasingly difficult to find anyone legitimate who will even attempt to tune it (to itself, not concert pitch).

100%. But there are a zillion of those 60's and 70's uprights that every suburban house had for some reason, were never properly maintained, and no elementary school needs any more. Like...anyone need firewood?
